Spotted Scorpionfish Scorpaena plumieri
The spotted scorpionfish is a common yet largely overlooked fish. It has very cryptic camoflauge making it very difficult to see. These fish are venomous and can cause serious injuries. They carry a neurotoxin in the hard spines of the dorsal, pectoral, and anal fin. These guys are close relatives of the now common lionfish which has recently made our coast home.
